Harp Trap
NHBS Harp Trap: Three Bank
FEATURES:
- Made in the UK by NHBS
- Unique winding line carrier for easy assembly
- Extending legs for height adjustment
- Designed in consultation with harp trap experts
The team at NHBS have done an excellent job in coming up with a new and refreshing approach to harp trapping, which shows many innovative and useful design features. When testing the equipment we were able to demonstrate that it was quicker/easier to assemble than competitor’s products. We are happy to recommend this harp trap, and will be ordering one ourselves, to be used during our training courses and for bat-related research.
The NHBS Harp Trap is an exciting new product that has been designed and built by NHBS, making it the only harp trap that is commercially produced in Europe. Harp traps provide a less stressful alternative to mist nets for capturing bats when surveying, and this trap has been carefully designed in collaboration with harp trap experts to ensure the safety of bats and improve catch efficiency. The trap is available as a three-bank trap as standard, but please contact our Workshop Team to discuss your requirements if you would like a bespoke two or four bank trap, or if you would like a trap that has the ability to be suspended from a support.
The trap includes innovative design features such as a winding line carrier, which makes setting up and disassembly very quick and easy, with features that prevent line tangling. The whole trap collapses down effortlessly after a catching session, and the catch bag wraps around the metal elements and is held in place with the attached material straps so that it can be neatly stored and carried in its bag. We recommend that the trap is put together by two people and this takes about 6 – 7 minutes. The trap has extending legs, so the height of the catching area can be adjusted vertically. This can help with uneven ground, slopes or to bring the catch bag nearer a raised cave entrance.
The harp trap is composed of lightweight aluminium line carriers and legs struts combined with sturdy and durable marine grade stainless-steel supports. The catch bag is made from green cotton canvas that is water resistant (oil coated) and breathable, and it includes heavy duty clear plastic baffles to prevent the bats from escaping. There is an extension under the catch bag that stops bats from flying underneath the trap and wraps around the string assembly for protection during storage. There is also the option to anchor the harp trap with guy ropes if the situation in which it is being used demands this.
The trap has a catch area of about 4.05m2 and is 180cm long. The catch bag is approximately 60cm deep and at its entrance is about 44cm wide. The trap weighs 15kg.
The NHBS Harp Trap includes a fully strung and tensioned three bank trap, the carry bag, guy ropes and pegs, spare restringing line, and instruction sheets.
Harp traps will only be sold to only Government Departments.
Harp Trap
Harp TrapThe Austbat Harptrap has been in continual production for over twenty years. Over that time it has been refined and improved to offer today’s bat worker the most effective, reliable and easy to assemble bat trap possible.
Sound design and selection of high quality lightweight materials result in a microbat harptrap that is:
- Effective – design refinements ensure excellent capture success combined with low escape rates;
User friendly – quick to assemble, easy to adjust; no tools are required; - Corrosion resistant – judicious use of stainless steel, brass and high grade anodised aluminium;
- Lightweight – the standard 4.2m2 trap weighs twelve kilograms, the carry bag just 500g;
- Interchangeable – all components adhere to our tight dimensional tolerances and are precision machined, enabling parts to be freely interchanged between traps if required. Future spare parts are guaranteed to fit the trap that you buy today;
- Proven – over 520 Austbat traps are operating in 18 countries around the world, covering a vast range of habitats, from steamy jungles to scorching deserts. This is a living testament to the dependability of the Austbat Harptrap.
Standard 4.2m2 two-bank traps and spare parts are generally available “off the shelf”. Mini two-bank traps (to any size), as well as three or four bank traps are made to order.
Traps are supplied fully strung and tension tested. A comprehensive assembly and maintenance manual is included. We generally supply the trap in a heavy duty watertight cartage tube, available in either a long version (hips stored in), or short version (hips stored separately). Alternatively, we can ship in a disposable heavy duty cardboard tube. Other options include a lightweight carry bag and stringing/spares kit.
