Criterion RD 1000 Electronic Dendrometer
This revolutionary measurement device features an integrated tilt sensor which allows collection of diameter data at any point up the stem and also determines the height at which a specific diameter is reached. The Basal Area Factor (BAF) routine indicates “In” and “Out” trees for a full range of sampling factors. In addition, the status of borderline trees can be determined by entering a distance from a rangefinder (not included) into the Criterion RD 1000 through the input serial port or manually via the keypad. A second output serial port allows for data transfer to an external data collector (not included). To improve measurement resolution at greater distances, use the included 2.4x magnifier. The in-scope LED display features variable brightness for easy reading in all lighting conditions. Water and dust resistant, the unit also features a 1/4” x 20 thread mount for attachment to a monopod or tripod. Carrying case, lens cloth, neck strap, and manual included.
Sokkia Topographic Abney Level
Graduated 0 to ±100’ (topo), 0 to ±25 (chain corr.), 0 to ±60°, 0 to 150% on two interchangeable scale rings. No vernier. Scale pointer has fine adjustment with turn of small thumbscrew; locks with turn of large thumbscrew. Eyepiece slides out to focus bubble. 6-1/2”L. Flat base, brass tube with aluminum arc. Carrying case has belt loop, snap closure.
Use to extract cores of wood from trees or freshly treated poles, piling, lumber, or timbers to determine growth rate, age, tree soundness, and chemical penetration. Teflon® coating protects bit against rust and resin build-up and reduces friction. How to select the correct Increment Borer for your needs. Three factors to consider when ordering an increment borer are bit length, core diameter and thread style. Borer Bit Length depends on the size of the trees you will be boring. Length is measured from the tip of the threads to the end of the round section of the borer bit. This is the maximum depth the bit will penetrate. Core Diameter of the wood sample is determined by the inside diameter of the opening at the threaded end of the bit. 0.169” is commonly used for general forestry use, 0.200” for wood preserving testing and 0.500” for large amounts of wood for qualitative analysis. 2- or 3-Thread style is a matter of personal preference. A 2-thread borer has two threads on the cutting edge of the bit, each originating 180° apart. A 3-thread borer has three threads, each originating 120° apart. The higher thread pitch of the 3-thread borer will penetrate deeper per revolution than a 2-thread. A 3-thread will also produce less friction because more steel is in contact with the wood. The ease at which a borer penetrates wood depends on wood hardness, friction properties and capability/strength of the user.
Fish Ray Handheld Sonar Depth Sounder Model FR300
Operating Depth: 2’ to 399’.
Simply place the nose end of the Fish Ray in the water and pull the trigger to quickly obtain water depth measurements. Readings instantly appear on the digital LCD display in feet. Once you determine a stable bottom depth, you can then slowly sweep the Fish Ray through the water to scan for sudden depth changes that indicate the presence of fish or contour variations. The rugged, high-impact housing is waterproof and floats.
Eno Scientific Well Sounder 2010 PRO
A highly accurate instrument designed for measuring static water level in wells, piezometers, or boreholes. This portable handheld unit uses sound waves to measure the distance from the top of the well to the water level, eliminating the need to lower anything into the well. Unlike standard water level tapes, these acoustic meters are free from well contamination issues, and there is no clean up and nothing to get stuck in the well. Simply place the probe into a well cap opening and turn the unit on. Within seconds, the unit will display the static water level measurement. Will work on crooked, straight, or coiled pipes with up to a 90% blockage. Requires no external equipment for configuration settings and is capable of logging, storing, and downloading 25 million time/date stamped data points. Key features include immediate data capture, auto temperature compensation, calculation of drawdown and recovery rates, real-time clock/calendar to time stamp the log data, USB download, plus it is weather-resistant.
SkyScan Lightning/Storm Detector Model SS-P5
Detect lightning as far as 40 miles away! Thanks to the patented dual antenna technology and digital microprocessor, the SkyScan is the most reliable and accurate lightning detection system available. With the push of a button, SkyScan detects lightning and accurately tracks its approach with both an audible tone and four LEDs which are ranged in miles to let you know if the storm is moving towards, away or parallel to your position. In case of a severe storm, the SkyScan warns of strong thunderstorms or squall lines by sounding a continuous alarm for 15 seconds and illuminating the Severe Storm LED for a minimum of 15 minutes and repeats this every 15 minutes until the severe weather activity has cleared. Other features include a rugged weather-resistant case, a range select that allows audible warnings to be set at desired range, and a battery save function. Operates on six AA batteries.
Spiegel Relaskop, Metric Scale
Used in variable plot and Three P sampling. American Scale reads in English units (sq. ft./acre, inches, feet). Use where trees are smaller than 96” dbh on level or steep terrain. Metric Scale reads in metric units (sq. m/hectare, centimeters, meters). Excellent for a variety of forest conditions and tree sizes. Wide Scale is designed for metric measurements (diameter measurements convert to inches or centimeters). Recommended for trees larger than 244 cm (96”) dbh. Works on level or sloping terrain. CP Scale is ideal when metric or English measurements are desired (basal area in sq. m/hectare only). Leather case and illustrated booklet included.
