Swan Neck Collar

Tracking Birds

North Star’s Bird Borne PTTs (PTT stands for “Platform Transmitter Terminal”) offer long operational life, high location accuracy, programmable duty cycles with multiple seasons, integrated sensors, and package sizes ranging from 9.5-110 grams. GPS PTTs are available from 22 grams on up, in solar and primary battery models. Conventional VHF transmitters can be incorporated into the package, if desired.

Sensors included in all North Star PTTs include temperature, activity, battery voltage and duty cycle season. GPS PTTs can provide heading , altitude, and speed. New GSM units for birds operate via cellular networks and provide 2-way capabilities for the first time ever from the back of a bird. North Star can deliver the PTTs and GSM devices as backpacks (typical configuration), leg mounts (for species such as cranes), neck mounts (for species such as swans), or patagial mounts. North Start also offers GPS loggers for birds with an integrated VHF transmitter beacon to aid in recovery.
